A RANGE OF SUPPORT OPTIONS

AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS

  • All students have access to the online herbal forum which allows all students to share their experiences and provide peer support.

This feature allows students within their own year to communicate with each other and hold reflective practice sessions.

  • In addition to the online peer network opportunities, individual years are encouraged to come together as a group to develop support network and reflective practice.

Opportunities for students to meet as a group are arranged around the seminar sessions at the venue which they all attend.

  • Reflective Practice is a subject delivered as part of both the teaching programme and the clinical practice module

  • Student Development Meetings are one-to-one support meetings that take place once or twice a term with your personal academic tutor (PAT). They can be arranged via phone, video (face to face may be possible where seminars are taking place. The sessions include feedback on your progress and opportunities to speak with your personal tutor about your course work, issues regarding its completion and other matters including need for reasonable adjustments etc.

Your PAT will be assigned in September of your first year at Betonica and continue to be mentored by them for the next 3-4 years. In cases where a PAT may need to be changed due to retirement etc, the Head of PATS will inform students. More information on these can be found on the learning platform.

  • Students are encouraged to actively participate in the ongoing evolution of Betonica and how to provide the best conditions to support people's learning.

Each year group has the opportunity to participate in a student nomination process that will identify a student representative to represent their year on including meeting with the Head of Year at least once per year. The Head of Year will assess any changes and feedback and take it forward to the board if need be.

This allows two way communication from the student body to the Board, and provides a student voice when identifying and discussing any issues, in addition to providing the Betonica team with ideas and suggestions.

There is an opportunity for the student representatives to also link with each other, share ideas and feedback any information that the wider student cohort would find important or of interest. This also provides greater opportunity for greater interaction across the wider peer student community.

At the end of each year the Betonica staff and the student representatives review a student satisfaction and suggestion feedback questionnaire to inform the planning for future years courses including student support.

  • The Wellbeing Lead for Betonica can be contacted in confidence on matters where the student does not feel able to address a concern directly with their allocated tutor and or has a grievance or complaint. (please refer to the complaints section of the student handbook).
