MISSED DEADLINES

Missed deadlines will incur a reduction in the marks given. Up to 24 hours after deadline – 5 mark reduction, each 24 hours after that - 10 mark reduction until you reach the minimum pass mark.

You may apply for a mitigation before the deadline if you have sufficient evidence that there are exceptional circumstance for an extension. See the section below.

Once you have completed the assignment by the new agreed deadline, you will be able to submit it to Turnitin. Please note, you can only submit once after the original deadline has passed, even with mitigation. You will be sent email guidance of where to submit.

HOW TO APPLY

FOR MITIGATION

If you are unable to meet a deadline you must complete the online mitigation application form before the deadline.

Please read the Mitigation Guidance below before completing the form.

YOU CAN APPLY FOR UP TO:

  • a 3-day extension with detailed explanation, this is most suitable for short-term unforeseen events such as sickness etc.

  • a 7-day extension with evidence

  • a 14-30 day deferral (supported by your PAT and head of year granted in rare circumstances with significant evidence).

THE APPLICATION FOR MITIGATION OF WORK DUE IS TO SUPPORT THOSE WHO EXPERIENCE UNFORESEEN AND UNEXPECTED CIRCUMSTANCES THAT PREVENT THE FAIR COMPLETION OF WORK. EXAMPLES INCLUDE:

  • short-term illness such as cold and flu

  • serious, acute or chronic illness

  • bereavement

  • serious illness of a close family member or partner

  • significant unexpected caring responsibilities

  • other significant adverse personal circumstances

  • Please communicate with your PAT and head of year in any of these circumstances.

Have any evidence ready to upload in the following form. Files must be saved with your student number, e.g. ‘9999_GP Letter’

Applications must normally be submitted within one week of the deadline of the affected assignment or missed exam (including face-to-face timed presentations), and in all cases prior to the meeting of the exam board in July (where the application(s) will be considered). 

Please be aware that delivery of this document very near the time that the assessment is due, may involve a delay in finding out if your claim has been accepted or not.
