RESPONSIBILITIES

OF THE PERSONAL ACADEMIC TUTOR

The Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) role is central to Betonica School of Herbal Medicine’s student support arrangements, and their purpose is to provide academic and pastoral support for Betonica students. As such, it is important that we find ways to support and enhance the Personal Academic Tutoring provision across the programme. This part of our website considers what it means to be a PAT and provides a number of resources to help you in this role.

  • Provide a personal contact for the student during the academic year.

  • Provide advice, support and general guidance on academic issues.

  • Recognise when the assistance required is beyond the competence or responsibility of the PAT and, in consultation with the student, refer the student to the Module Teacher, Head of PATS or the Course Leader.

  • Support students in their understanding of agreed Regulations, Policies and Frameworks.

  • Facilitate liaison between the student and other student support services within Betonica.

  • Help students to progress through their academic journey, including by signposting available study skills resources and training.

  • Provide students with the opportunity to review and reflect upon their progress.

  • Offer guidance in making choices over further study and career opportunities.

  • Where appropriate, providing an academic reference for the student.

  • Where necessary, referring the student on to the Head of PATS and course leader if further help is required regarding learning difficulties, health, personal or other issues as soon as possible.

  • Guidance with issues arising and in extreme circumstances, the complaints procedure (See Section 20 and Appendix 2 in the Betonica Student Handbook).
