WHAT TO DO?
-
If the 1st marker is unsure about the mark that they have given one or more individual students, they can flag these assignments up for the moderator to look at and the mark discussed.
However, if the marking moderator disagrees with the mark for one or more individual students which were not flagged up for particular attention by the 1st marker, the moderator should add comments to the Marking & Moderator Feedback Summary and discuss with the 1st marker to either revisit marks for the entire cohort or the 1st marker to refer to the Lead of Marking for further action.

Student Appeals will come to the Course Leaders who will send to the Lead of Marking for review. Markers may be contacted to remark or comment on their marking/moderating feedback.

The marking guidance for Year One is different to other years.
All assessments in Year One are routinely marked between two markers, to both share the workload and address impartiality. Second marking of scripts will only take place if a high number of students have failed or if the first marker is inexperienced.
The assignments will be moderated internally (top, middle, bottom pass and all fails and if cohort more than 30, an additional submission from each percentile) via the Marking & Moderator Feedback Summary. The Course Leaders will raise any marking questions with the Lead of Marking.
Additionally, refer to Mitigation Spreadsheet, Neurodiversity Considerations file and Disagreements guidance on this page as well as the Tutor & Markers handbook (at the bottom of this page).
