1ST MARKER

FEEDBACK REQUIREMENTS

Before marking please read the student assignment document which incudes the marking criteria and related information. The simple feedback can be provided in Turnitin as 'on the page' or 'in-line' comments: These should be short and no more than ten words. This highlights areas for improvement as well as acknowledging good elements of the assignment (references, spelling, syntax, synthesis and arguments).

Please allocate your marks for each of the marking criteria on the Grading Form (tab with small blue squares) in Turnitin along with short summary. You may also wish to give generic feedback which should be added to the Turnitin Feedback Summary tab on the right hand side of the screen. The moderators will also use this tab to include the statement confirming the submission was moderated and the mark agreed with the first marker.

It is always best to give 'feed-forward advice' as well. You may use the wording in the marking rubric if you wish.

Turnitin also provides a similarity score relating to potential plagiarism. It will highlight anything that has been copied and pasted. As a general rule, if a submission has a score higher than 30 please enter the student number and comment on the Marking & Moderator Feedback Summary and if more than 50 contact the Lead of Marking before marking the submission. Please also make sure you have read a copy of the Betonica Plagiarism & AI policy and process.

MARKING MODERATOR REQUIREMENTS

The moderator reads through a selection of assignments identified by the 1st marker in the Marking & Moderator Feedback Summary. The moderator reviews these papers using the marking criteria defined in the assignment brief and notes the comments/feedback and the mark given. As a general guide, if there are less than 30 assignments in a cohort, the moderator reviews the highest, middle and lowest pass marks PLUS all fails. For cohorts of 30  or more submissions, the moderator will review the highest and lowest pass marks AND one assignment for each 10% margin PLUS any fails. The moderator and the 1st marker discuss the marks and comments and when in agreement regarding final marks, a summary is entered onto the Marking & Moderator Feedback Summary. If the marker and moderator are unable to agree marks, the 1st marker will contact the Lead of Marking for resolution.
